Our recent work, “Continuum granular flow model with restitution-derived viscoelastic damping,” has been published in Physical Review Fluids. In this study, we introduce a unified continuum framework that directly links particle-scale restitution to macroscopic viscoelastic damping, enabling a more physically accurate characterization of energy dissipation in granular flows through both viscoelastic and viscoplastic mechanisms. This new model improves the modeling of impacts, vibrations, and reconsolidation in complex trans-phase continuum granular flows relevant to many engineering and industrial applications.
